What Does Methylation Support® Do?

Amy Myers MD Methylation Support combines active B vitamins and trimethylglycine to effectively reduce elevated homocysteine in individuals with MTHFR gene variants, though its very high folate dose substantially exceeds standard requirements.

Overview

•Folate: 3,500 mcg a day is over the 1,000 mcg/day upper limit (IOM (NIH ODS)) (about 3.5 times the limit). Folic acid above this limit can mask vitamin B12 deficiency.
•The daily serving delivers 2,100 mcg of L-5-MTHF (3,500 mcg DFE), which exceeds the established upper intake level for synthetic folic acid (1,000 mcg/day) and can mask hematologic signs of vitamin B12 deficiency if taken without adequate B12 monitoring.
•Supplies 10 mg of vitamin B6 as pyridoxal-5-phosphate, which approaches the European Food Safety Authority tolerable upper limit of 12 mg/day.
•Rapid introduction of 1,000 mg trimethylglycine and methylated vitamins can trigger overmethylation symptoms such as irritability, headaches, or palpitations in sensitive individuals.
•High supplemental betaine intake may slightly elevate serum LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels in some individuals during long-term use.
•Pregnant or nursing individuals should consult their clinician before use due to the supra-physiological doses of active folate and coenzyme B vitamins.
