Overview
•Vitamin A: 6,000 mcg a day is over the 3,000 mcg/day upper limit (IOM (NIH ODS)) (about 2 times the limit). Regular intake of preformed vitamin A above this limit can harm the liver and bones, and it can cause birth defects in pregnancy.
•Folate: 1,360 mcg a day is over the 1,000 mcg/day upper limit (IOM (NIH ODS)). Folic acid above this limit can mask vitamin B12 deficiency.
•Warfarin therapy: vitamin K2 (80 mcg) directly antagonises anticoagulant efficacy
•Levothyroxine: minerals like calcium and zinc bind thyroid hormone; space doses at least 4 hours apart.
•Quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics: zinc, copper, and calcium impair absorption; separate administration by 2 to 4 hours.
•Stop and get advice if: unexplained bruising, bleeding, or altered INR if concurrently taking blood-thinning medication
